Water Resource Management in Arid Areas of Kenya

Introduction

Water resource management in Kenya’s Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASALs) is essential for sustaining human life, livestock, agriculture, wildlife, and economic development. These regions receive low and erratic rainfall, experience prolonged droughts, and have limited surface water resources. Effective water management helps communities adapt to climate change, improve food security, and reduce poverty.

1. Rainwater Harvesting

4. Boreholes and Groundwater Development

5. Solar-Powered Water Systems
