DIRECTORATE OF AGRICULTURE DEVELOPMENT
This directorate pioneers climate-smart agriculture and resilient livestock value chains
to eliminate food insecurity and build rural household wealth.
- Livestock Production: Deploys modern animal husbandry practices optimized for
dryland environments, specializing in zero-grazing infrastructure, strategic fodder
conservation, veterinary outreach, and breed-improvement initiatives (including the
rearing of purebred Dorper sheep).
Research & Development (R&D): Conducts field trials for drought-tolerant crop
varieties, organic soil conditioners, and moisture-retention technologies to shield
smallholders from erratic weather patterns.
Production and Post-Harvest Management: Standardizes post-harvest logistics,
value-addition processing, and cold-chain management, connecting localized farming
cooperatives directly to premium municipal and institutional markets.
